Had a good time in Argentina racing my first ISDE. The first day was one of the hardest days of riding a dirt bike I have done, from temps reaching over 100 degrees and the relentless transfers. I ended up 23rd overall club after having a brake malfunction, which left me with no rear brakes for 50 miles! Second day was better as they shortened the transfers and put on on more roads; finishing 10th Club, and 3rd C1 (250). The third day is where my week came to an end with my shoulder dislocating, and the doctors not letting me finish the race. Learned a lot this week, and hopefully will be able to race #SixDays again in the future. Thank you to Eric Cleveland Memorial and everyone who made this possible to race in Argentina!
Starting off on my 2023 ISDE Experience, I really have to thank everyone for their contributions and support to get me there! It truly was an amazing experience getting to represent the USA in such a big event.
The first week down there we were able to hike the 33 miles of special tests, explore the countryside of San Juan, build and test my race bike, prepare everything needed for race week, and most importantly fuel up on the assortment of steak that Argentina had to offer!
Day 1, it was a calm morning. Far different from races I'm used to. Everyone started at different times of the morning and it was weird to not feel nervous at such a big event. As I started the race it was already pushing 100 degrees out and I knew it would be a long hard 7 hours on the bike. Boy did I underestimate it. Halfway through day 1 I was already heavily dehydrated and my forearms and hands were cramping like nothing I've ever experienced. At the end of the day, skin pale white and full blown heat exhaustion, I barley had enough energy to replace one of my tires in the 15 min service time. All my helpers were quiet and worried. After impound, Being the older stubborn racer that I am, I didn't dare ask for an IV or anything which would have dramatically helped the rest of the week. Instead, I powered through. 68th club rider on Day 1.
Day 2, another heater. Blistered hands already and the effects of yesterday were still heavy on the body. I powered though to the best of my abilities. Slightly improving and trying not to relapse into heat exhaustion. 53rd on the day.
Day 3, waking up in the morning my body was incredibly sore but I knew that we would have a new course to ride and temps would stay below 100. With the help of everyone around me, I was able to address my beat-up hands and forearms which improved my riding and comfort level. 50th on the day
Day 4, finally I felt like myself and rode my motorcycle like I was supposed to on day 1. Everyone on the team seemed to be in much better moods as well. 35th on the day.
Day 5, was a really fun day for me. The test sections were rougher than previous days but the transfers sections were easier. The crowds seemed bigger which makes you want to ride faster too! 36th on the day.
Day 6, starting off on this day my only goal was to not screw it up and just finish. Being that last qualified gate pick for the fastest group of Club riders, I knew it would be a tough moto race for me. And just like that, two laps in I found myself on the ground in a dust cloud. Picking my bike up with twisted bars and levers, all I could think was JUST FINISH! My bike was sputtering and then died in the next corner. Worried as hell, I got it started and limped her into the finish of 6 DAYS! Not a great result for the final day but I stayed in the top 50 club riders at 41st Overall which was my goal for the week!
So stoked I had the opportunity to go! Definitely of of the hardest things I have ever done on a dirt bike, but also one of the most fun. Ended up 52nd OA in Club division with the boys. Got Top 5 in the final moto with the Trophy Women. Safe to say, I'm coming back for more. Thanks to everyone that made this happen and helped me get there!
